how do you remove old glue from folding roof material?

I'm about to refit the rear folding roof section. This needs re-gluing to the hoop. I've removed the glue from the hoop but how do you remove it from the material before applying new glue?

This stuff is brill and will do the job just use it quite liberally on the old glue, if it was newer it would not need a soaking but it will start coming off after about 2 mins
